    Dr. K. Narayanasamy, born on 11th June 1963, hails from an agricultural family in the Village of Reddiapatty located in Aruppukottai Taluk, Virudhunagar district in the State of Tamil Nadu, India. He pursued his early education in the same village. With a notable career spanning over a period of 33 years, Dr. Narayanasamy has made significant contributions to medical services and education, particularly in the field of Hepatology.

    Academic Qualification

      •  Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Madurai Kamaraj University
      •  MBBS from Madurai Medical College
      •  MD in Internal Medicine from Madras Medical College
      • DM in Gastroenterology  from Madras Medical College

     With over 13 years of dedicated service as a Professor of Hepatology, Dr. K. Narayanasamy  played pivotal roles in various esteemed institutions and positions appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu, including:

      • Tamil Nadu Scientist Award (TANSA – 2015) from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology

     

      • Medical Excellence award for Outstanding Contribution in COVID Management by World Tamil Chamber of Commerce, 2020

     

      • International Presidents Certification of Appreciation from United Kindness and Diversity, Lions Clubs International, 2020

     

      • Best Doctor Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu, 2017

    Achievements and Contributions

    • Pioneered the introduction of the Department of Hepatology in South India at Madras Medical College in 2008, later elevated it to the Institute of Hepatobiliary Sciences in 2017.
    • A pioneer in the implementation of innovative therapies in the Hepatology field.
    • Conducted numerous clinical and epidemiological studies in Tamil Nadu.
    • Spearheaded a screening and vaccination policy to create a “Hepatitis-free community”, vaccinating approximately 5 lakh individuals.
    • Actively engaged in research fellowships, securing grants for projects related to genetic markers and targeted therapies for hepatic encephalopathy, to name a few:
    • Undergone research fellowship HRD-DHR training at Department of Genetics, PGIBMS, University of Madras in 2015 and subsequently awarded DHR-HRD start up grant of Rs.30,00,000/- for the project titled “Finding of novel genetic markers associated with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases(NAFLD) among South Indian Population”.
    • DHR-ICMREMR Grant of Rs. 32,61,750/- awarded for project titled “Potential Targeted Therapies for hyper ammonemia in Hepatic Encephalopathy”.
    • Published 42 articles in reputable Indian and International journals, authored 3 books in Tamil about liver diseases.
    • Distinguished speaker at over 50 Scientific International Conferences, Symposia, and Invited Lectures in India and abroad.
    • Dr. K. Narayanasamy’s  exceptional contributions and accomplishments lay emphasis on his dedication to advancing healthcare, research and medical education.
